Mold/Die Springs

Mold/Die Springs

Die springs are high-performance compression springs engineered specifically for the extreme stresses of high-frequency industrial environments. Primarily utilized in automotive stamping dies, plastic injection molds, and heavy machinery, these springs are designed to deliver immense force within restricted spatial envelopes.

Unlike conventional springs, die springs feature a rectangular wire cross-section, which maximizes volumetric efficiency and energy density compared to traditional round wire.

Core Engineering Characteristics

  • Rectangular Wire Geometry: By utilizing a rectangular section, these springs offer a larger cross-sectional area of metal within the same outer diameter. This results in superior stiffness (spring rate) and significantly higher load capacity.
  • Stress-Relieved Rounded Corners: The edges of the wire are precision-rounded to mitigate internal stress concentrations. This design ensures optimal stress distribution during rapid compression cycles, vastly extending the spring’s fatigue life.

ISO 10243 Load Classifications

The color indicates the stiffness and the maximum recommended deflection:

  • 🟢 Green (Light Load): Maximum deflection up to 40% of free length.
  • 🔵 Blue (Medium Load): The industry standard for balanced load and stroke.
  • 🔴 Red (Heavy Load): Engineered for stamping dies requiring high stripping or clamping forces.
  • 🟡 Yellow (Extra Heavy Load): Maximum stiffness for extreme force in limited travel.
  • 🟤 Brown (Hyper Heavy Load): Designed for the most demanding ultra-heavy-duty industrial applications.

Primary Applications

  • Metal Stamping: Providing essential stripping and blanking force for high-speed presses.
  • Injection Molding: Driving the return and ejection mechanisms for precision plates.
  • Industrial Braking Systems: Maintaining continuous, high-clamping pressure in heavy-duty clutches.
  • Valve Controls: Serving as a reliable return force in high-pressure safety valves.

The material of the die spring is generally chrome alloy steel.

Mold/Die springs are mainly used for unloading, pushing, and ejecting. Mold Springs Die Springs are marked with five different colors basing on different loading.
